For some reason i have been drawn to the W10 Tailwind, but i have a question. The original wing construction is built up wing with ply wood skins. I'm thinking of substituting the built up ribs with foam and having a fiberglass skin, using the same spars. Using the construction technique...
The Tailwind has very small ailerons so deflection of the torque tube will be low. I would think with a torque tube, flutter would be dampened unless the tube is woefully small; what you get with a torque tube is less effectiveness the faster you go because of twist. Big ailerons would not be happy.
It was announced on the Tailwind forum that prolific Tailwind builder Jim Clement died from a stroke. My recollection is that he built around 11 Tailwinds. I'm not sure if that included his version of the Buttercup and a larger version of the Tailwind. He came up with some changes to the...
Very complete project for sale, flown 30hours with corvair conversion, being converted to lycoming, very well built. New Brian Alley cowl, O-320-E2D engine...
For those like me that admire simplicity, here's an interesting design, apparently one of three built by a group of friends each under a different name: Eaves Skeeter, Huff Huffaire, and Pearson Sugar Babe. Eaves Leonard Eaves, Leroy Huff, Lloyd Pearson, Oklahoma City OK. Skeeter...
The Cougar was, I believe, pretty much a Tailwind knock-off that didn't perform as well as the Tailwind. If I were going to build something like that, it would be the Tailwind or Buttercup.
Any recommendations for alloy and thickness of a stainless steel firewall? Application is on a wood aircraft. The firewall skin will be a completely flat sheet (no bends) but needs to be easily shaped and drilled. Thanks to All
There were sections of this flight where the tailwind component approached 100 Knots, however due to the changes in wind direction over the distance, there were sections where it was <60 knots.
